Crystals 101 with Audrey Kitching

Audrey Kitching is one part mystic babe and two parts social media mogul. Scouted by a modeling agent at the age of 14 in Philadelphia, she has since built a business as a blogger, designer and art director. Audrey’s pink cotton candy hair (she had it before Nicole Ritchie and Rihanna did) and eccentric style are what made people notice her on and offline. When you start scrolling through Audrey’s social media feeds, you’ll notice a few running themes: her positivity, self-confidence and commitment to energy healing. We have reason to believe that her veins pump glitter.

Some people believe that energy healing can help with physical problems, mental health issues and more by enhancing energy flow and getting rid of disturbances in the “human energy field” or aura. Audrey isn’t the only one who’s keeping tabs on her spirituality: Miranda Kerr sleeps with Rose Quarts, British denim brand, Blaak, infuses some of their styles with lapis lazuli crystals, David Lynch preaches the benefits of transcendental meditation, and Gwyneth Paltrow is known to do a Reiki session now and again. With energy healing going from fringe to in vogue, we wanted to know a little more. We talked to Audrey about her practice and how it even impacts her approach to getting dressed in the morning.

Starting with a line inspired by Beyonce lyrics and adding some gorgeous watercolours, we are so in love with what Anabela Piersol came up with for our wallpaper collaboration. Here shares her moodboard of inspiration for the Fieldguided x Garmentory design.

Meet the woman behind Oregon style blog Unruly Things

Lately we’ve been finding that our daydreams look a lot like the Insta feed from Unruly Things. Snaps of wild flowers, freshly picked fruit, outdoor adventures and backyard hammocks are totally our summertime jam. Graphic designer Alyson Brown is the Oregon-based beauty behind the blog and shares things she loves along with her day to day with husband Levi, little boy Wolf and two cats. It’s an idyllic world we keep coming back to. Here, Alyson tells us about a few of her favorite things.

WALK US THROUGH YOUR USUAL DAY. Bright and early we’re woken up by our son, Wolf. He’s usually up by 7am and ready to go downstairs and play. Monday through Thursday we’re pretty busy with preschool, swimming lessons, soccer or play dates but the afternoons are reserved for mama and Wolf time. During summer months, we like to go for walks to pick wildflowers or play outside in the backyard until dinner time. Then it’s bath and bed time for Wolf, followed by some much needed parent time.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT LIVING IN OREGON? I’ve never loved a place more than I love living in Bend, Oregon. Sure, it’s hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter, but I love it. It’s such an active city with many, many things to do year round. Whether it be floating down the river or biking through town or snowshoeing in the mountains or trekking through our snowy neighborhood, Bend has it all.

WHERE DO YOU ESCAPE TO ON THE WEEKENDS? We love hiking and being outdoors, so on weekends we like to plan at least one adventure. Even if it’s just a trip to a new-to-us playground or a favorite local hike.

NAME THREE THINGS YOU’RE COVETING RIGHT NOW. Since I’m pregnant, I’m after anything to keep cool this summer. I’ve been eyeing this dress from Ace & Jig, Ancient Greek Sandals, a super cute bikini from Lauren Moffatt for showing off the bump, and of course I can’t leave out the ultimate for keeping cool – these popsicle molds.

Lauren Toyota on going vegan and food blogging with her BF

When she’s not interviewing celebrities for MTV Canada, Much Music and eTalk, Lauren Toyota is in the kitchen, literally “cooking up vegan love”. She started her blog, hot for food, in 2009 when she began to transition into being a full-time vegan and wanted to share her journey, and some seriously delicious recipes, along the way. (We recommend trying her vegan buffalo wings, they are no joke.) A few years later she sat next to John Diemer on a cross-country tour bus and found her foodie equal. The adorable couple has been blogging together ever since. We had to find out more so we quizzed both of them on their story.

TELL US ABOUT HOT FOR FOOD. I started hot for food blog in late 2009 when I started to transition into veganism. I was getting really into eating this way and I had a lot of time to cook, test recipes, and take photos. Blogging was a good motivation to stick with veganism and share my story, recipe ideas, and even the struggles at the beginning. The blog didn’t get serious though until I met John. It was amazing to have someone around who was as in love with food as I am! It only made sense for us to go on this journey together, share our travels with people, and spread more vegan love.

ANY TIPS YOU CAN GIVE FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO GO VEGAN? If you’re interested definitely try it one meal at a time. Then go for a week, maybe even two. You will notice a huge difference in the way you feel in only one to two weeks. And I urge you to try some of the vegan products on the market right now, especially those from Daiya, Gardein, Sol Cuisine, and Earth Balance. Things have come a long way and I promise that you won’t feel like you’re missing out on anything.

YOU TRAVEL TO TRY OUT VEGAN RESTAURANTS ACROSS NORTH AMERICA. WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE SO FAR? The best meals we’ve eaten on a trip have been in Las Vegas. It’s also the city that surprised us the most with being so vegan friendly. I never would have thought I could eat whatever I wanted in a city like that, but they have everything! The Wynn Hotel on the strip has 14 to 16 restaurants all of which have their own custom vegan menus. We ate like kings while we were there.

HAVE YOU INTERVIEWED ANY VEGAN CELEBRITIES? Unfortunately I have yet to bond with any vegan celebrities. Kermit The Frog might be the closest I’ve come though, since he’s against eating pigs! But I hope I can meet some true vegan ambassadors one day soon. I would love to meet Ellen DeGeneres or even this high profile vegan chef, Tal Ronnen. But out of all the celebs I’ve met my favorite interviews were with Regis Philbin, Will Ferrell, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, and One Direction.

I am a sucker for some vegan “chicken”. My fave meal is the southern combo from The Hogtown Vegan in Toronto. It’s fried vegan chicken with sides of sautéed collard greens and vegan mac and cheese.

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU MET. Lauren and I met on set while filming the Much VJ Search last year. She was hosting and I was hired as a freelance sound mixer. It was a cross-country bus tour with stops in all major cities along the way. We sat together everyday on the bus and used the 12-hour bus rides to get to know one another; it was the longest first date ever!

HOW DID YOU MAKE THE SWITCH TO BEING VEGAN? I would like to say that I quit meat and dairy cold turkey but I feel like that’s a bad euphemism for a vegan to use! But actually it was a very fast transition and both my love for Lauren and food made it a really exciting time for me. I would spend most of my nights trying to cook up veganized versions of my favourite dishes for Lauren to try. If anyone is having trouble making the switch, just do what I did and fall in love with a vegan.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE VEGAN MEAL? If I know Lauren she’s probably going to say the southern combo from The Hogtown Vegan which is a close second next to Lauren’s famous mac and cheese. It’s the perfect combo of creamy, rich and tasty!

5 minutes with chemist-turned-fashion blogger Alyssa Lau

There’s nothing ordinary about style blogger Alyssa Lau. When she’s not posting amazing outfits and photos to her addictive fashion blog Ordinary People, she works at a Biochemistry lab in her hometown of Edmonton. We can only imagine what she could do with a lab coat. We love everything about the way she puts clothes together, so obviously we had to feature her for We Love. Because we really do.

I’m a 22-year old Chinese-Canadian style blogger from Edmonton, Alberta, who, originally with my cousin, discovered the infinite vastness of the blogging world three years ago. When I’m not blogging, I’m either: a) working in a Biochemistry lab as a research assistant, b) playing video games, c) snuggling with my pup, or d) working as a sales associate at Coup Boutique (phew!).

My style has always been dynamic in that it constantly changes according to what inspires me.

Baby blue

I feel kind of ashamed to say this, but I’ve never watched GIRLS!

I’m not picky, but as long as a pizza has mushrooms, I’m a happy camper.

Spring and summer, since we get too much of winter over here in Edmonton.

RAC – Cheap Sunglasses (Ft. Matthew Koma)

This is probably one of the most boring answers, but I’d probably invest 95% of it and spend the remaining 5% on whatever my heart desires.

Always a fan of:
Dani and Bianca of Kastor and Pollux,
India of India Rose,
Vanessa Hong of The Haute Pursuit,
Margaret Zhang of Shine By Three.

They all have such different styles but they keep on inspiring me with every post.

Do it because you love it and not because you want followers. Also, as if I couldn’t get any more cliché, the most important thing is to stay true to your self. Because if there’s one reason why people are going to read your blog, it’s because you are you, and not pretending to be someone else.
