The Studio Series 2.0: Caroline Z. Hurley, Textile Designer

We Love

Slip into a jumpsuit and you feel invincible — at least, that’s how textile designer Caroline Z. Hurley feels when she wears Ilana Kohn’s coveralls. “I can go on any adventure in them,” she says, “I can do cartwheels and flips, plus, it is literally the coziest thing I’ve ever worn.”  As a maker of textiles for the home — including rugs, blankets, throws, pillows and quilts — comfort is extremely important to her. Seriously, being cozy is practically her life motto.

Here, she takes Ilana Kohn’s all-purpose coveralls for a spin and answers our rapid-fire Q&A.

"It is literally the coziest thing I’ve ever worn."

HOMETOWN: Memphis, TN.
ASTROLOGICAL SIGN: Scorpio.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity.
MATERIALS OF CHOICE: Always natural. Mostly linen, cotton and wool.
FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF: I used to be an actor.
INSPIRATION FOR FALL: I am always inspired by place. Each season at CZH is based on a city; this season was Procida, Italy. I love the mix of pastel fishing nets mixed with the rust on the fishing boats.
PERSONAL WARDROBE STAPLES: Levi’s jeans and a button down. Pretty much every single day.
DREAM TRAVEL DESTINATION: Mexico, always and forever.
STUDIO SOUNDTRACK: Right now we are deep into Gillian Welch. Keeping it folky in the studio this year.
DRINK ORDER: Oooh, this is a hard one. It changes seasonally. Right now, with fall approaching, I’m vibing on bourbon.
STANDBY SNACK: Chocolate chip cookies.
