"I am a sucker for a good pair of low heels and a period piece drama."
TELL US ALL ABOUT YOU. Hello! I’m Anna Gray. I live in New York City and the short answer to “what do you do?” is that I’m a writer and a model. The slighter longer answer is that I freelance write for several websites and have a newsletter titled “Things I Would Buy If I Didn’t Have to Pay Rent” that is a compilation of all kinds of buyable things (see question 5 for more information). I grew up mostly in Virginia and moved to NY in 2007 for college (The New School, literature degree). I love people watching and spicy food. I am a sucker for a good pair of low heels and a period piece drama. The only thing I hate is celery.
HOW DID YOU GET YOUR START AS A WRITER? Writing has always come easily to me and I prefer using written words to communicate complicated whatever. I started writing blog posts for other sites (like Opening Ceremony) because it was a good way to get hotel press discounts. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE ASSIGNMENTS? Any assignment that introduces me to people that I fall in love with. The best is when I interview friends and our bond gets tighter.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT MODELING? I mostly model for friends or friends-of-friends so shoots are always fun and lively. Plus dressing up never gets old.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR NEWSLETTER. We’re constantly bombarded by messaging that tells us to buy things. The push and pull of “what you want to buy” and “what you should be spending money on” (rent!) can be frustrating. “Things I Would Buy If I Didn’t Have to Pay Rent” is an outlet for me to be snarky about my addiction to online shopping and also a way to make my guilty pleasure somewhat productive (if it makes you giggle, I’m doing something right). The featured items range from clothes to cars to restaurants to flights. Ask my mom, I’ve always had expensive taste.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? Expensive. Just kidding. I like vintage clothing and feeling comfortable. I never wear form fitting clothing and I like quality materials. I’ve been asked this question so many times – why is it still hard to answer?
YOUR GO-TO OUTFIT? Black Eileen Fisher silk culottes, black silk tank shell, espadrilles. OR Short swing dress and colorful flats. OR White button down, white denim skirt but sometimes this looks weird if I’m too tan.
DO YOU HAVE ANY STYLE MUSES? My grandma, my roommate Brie Welch, whomever it is that styles the Zara site.
WHAT ARE YOUR 5 ESSENTIALS FOR HOT SUMMERS IN THE CITY? Slip dress, espadrilles, tiny straw bag, sunglasses, water.
ANY WORDS OF WISDOM FOR KEEPING YOUR OUTFIT COOL WHEN SWEATING LIKE CRAZY? Don’t wear anything that touches your armpits!
