Boutique buyers on trends, designers and items to watch for this Fall

With September issues hitting newsstands and that good ol’ back to school feeling in the air, we’re officially hitting start on building our wardrobes for Fall. We’ve tapped a few of our favorite boutique buyers from New York City, Portland, Vancouver and Edmonton to give us the lowdown on the trends, designers and items they’re most excited about this season. They’re some of the best in the biz for identifying the next big thing in emerging and contemporary fashion, so you can bet that if it’s something this rad crowd has been anticipating over the months since buying season, you’ll be seeing a LOT more of it in the months to come.

Coup Boutique Fall 2015 Buyers Preview

ANNA MCDONOUGH, COUP BOUTIQUE

“I am so excited for the fall and winter coats. The coats in the collections this season are the best I’ve seen since Coup’s been open. In particular, the coats from Ports 1961 are truly amazing. Ports is really exciting. They have relaunched with a new designer and the collections are so beautiful. It will be exclusive to us in Canada this season. Aside from the amazing jackets, we have a crazy waiting list for these Ports shoes, simply from posting them on Instagram during a buying trip.

MELISSA CANTOR + CAROLINA CANTOR, ETHICA

“We’re really excited about Laura Siegel’s Fall collection: Think gorgeous aubergine and deep-blue tones that make you anxious to feel that fall chill in the air. The two pieces we’re especially excited about are a pair of quilted leggings with cut-outs on the knee and an unbelievably beautiful coat with an oversized hood.”

“I am really excited about Ilana Kohn‘s Kate Jumpsuit. Her Gary rompers flew out of the store in the spring and this one is a transitional piece that you can wear now with your sandals and later layer with your favorite booties and fall accessories.”

MICHELLE RIZZARDO, ONE OF A FEW

“Fall is by far my favorite season. I love the transition of summer into fall. Denim Refinery is literally the supplier of all my pants at the moment. A high waisted, straight and cropped denim. A nice light to medium wash. Matching these with a pair of Maryam Nassir Zadeh shoes adds the perfect amount of “lady” to the dressed down look of all the cropped denim and culottes that we are seeing. Lots of ribbed, plaid and clean designs filled the runways. The shoes and bags were lust worthy… so many ladylike styles. It is so refreshing.

There are so many bags that are worth a little splurging as well. Once you have that amazing pair of MNZ’s or Martiniano gloves, the best accessory is a bag that is conversation-worthy. So many bags this season – from Rachel Comey, Building Block, Vereverto and Clare V. – are full of different shapes, texture, fabric and details that add to any outfit.

Paired down lady is my look for fall. Comfortable clothing that looks sharp and refined. Spending on quality items that will last me seasons beyond this one.”

ANDI BAKOS, WEST END SELECT SHOP

“Maybe it’s the years of conditioning brought on by back-to-school shopping, but there’s something specific about the Fall season that always makes us want to SHOP! This season, we are squealing as we unpack deliveries from Nanushka, LF Markey and Kowtow. To name a few special pieces, I’m thinking of a button-up, floor-length shirtdress and a spongy knit turtleneck sweater in nude that goes down to your knees, but has a slit up to your chest from Nanushka. It’s hard to explain, but it’s so incredible. Then there’s the “Skylar Maxi Dress” by London-based LF Markey that is so unique, I’ve never seen anything like it! I’m calling it a “Day Gown” because it’s a full length t-shirt dress in a beautiful Tencel fabric, so it has this gown-like drama to it, but it’s in a lighter shade of navy with a huge, colorful embroidery on the front that makes it feel so bright and fun.”
